                                               Guidelines for Commissioned Drawings

Media, Photos, and Paper
*  The medium used in the drawings is graphite pencils.

*  A photograph at least 8” x 10” is to be supplied by the client and approved by the artist.  It can be either black and white or in color.  Several photos are desirable in order for the artist to choose the best one.  (The better the photo, the better the drawing will be.) All photos are returned to the client when the drawing is completed.

*  Drawings are completed on acid free, heavy-weight paper.   The size of the drawings varies.   A typical drawing might be on a sheet 14” x 17”.

*  The client purchases the original drawing.  All sketches or preliminary works remain the property of the artist.

Pricing

*  Costs vary due to considerations such as multiple faces in a portrait, complexity of subject/backgrounds, or periodic price increases.  The artist and the client will agree upon the final cost before work begins. The artist requests one-third of the final cost for a deposit.
Drawing Price Examples:  Single faced portrait ~ approx. $250 (plus tax)
Double faced portrait ~ approx. $350 (plus tax)
After the client has purchased the original drawing, upon request, prints of the drawing are available for purchase.  Prints vary in size, and are created by a professional photographer. Most often the print is of such good quality that it is difficult to differentiate between it and the original.
Print Cost examples:   “Capturing” the image digitally ~ approx $55 (plus tax)
“Hard copy print” ~ approx. $50 (plux tax)

Turn-Around Time

Typical turn-around times range from two weeks to four or five weeks, depending on various factors like the size, and subject or background complexities.  The artist may take liberties with positioning figures and other subject matter to insure a good composition.

Completion

When completed, the drawing is sprayed with a clear fixative and mounted on a backboard and covered with clear acetate for protection until the client has it framed.
